北京時間11月30日，科比親自撰文宣佈本賽季結束後將正式以球員身份退役。而在隨後的一場湖人主場迎戰步行者的比賽中，來到斯臺普斯中心的每一名球員都收到了這樣一封來自科比的信：

　　Some of you took me in，Some of you didn‘t 。

　　你們中有些人接受了我，有些人還沒

　　But all of you helped me become the player and man in front of you today，

　　You gave me the confidence to put my anger to good use，
